今日は、76年前、長崎に原爆が投下された日です。
核兵器により命を奪われた方々に哀悼の意を表し、ご冥福をお祈りいたします。また、大切な家族や友人、恋人を奪われたご遺族の方々、今もまだ後遺症に苦しんでおられる方々に心からお見舞いを申し上げます。
76年前、悲惨な戦争が行われ、たくさんの命、人々の日常が奪われたことは、絶対に忘れてはいけないことです。
私も戦争を直接知っているわけでなく、学校の授業や絵画、書籍、テレビ番組などで第二次世界大戦、太平洋戦争について知りました。
子どもの頃は、祖母が時々昔の話をしてくれ、その中に戦争にまつわる話もありました。しかし、祖母が聞かせてくれた戦争の話は、終戦後にモノが少なかったというエピソードを面白おかしく話してくれたものだけです。今考えると、子どもに怖い話はできないとわざと面白い話をしてくれたのか、それとも、恐しい戦争のことは思い出したくなかったのか、今となってはわかりません。
日本で戦争がなく、日常を暮らしていることを本当にありがたいことだと感じています。

Today is the day that the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki 76 years ago.
I would like to express my condolences and pray for the souls of those who lost their lives to nuclear weapons. I would also like to express my heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones, and to those who are still suffering from the aftereffects.
We must never forget that Japan fought wars including the World War II and they took many people's lives.
I did not know about World War II and the Pacific War directly, but I learned about them from school lessons, paintings, books, and TV programs.
When I was a child, my grandmother would sometimes tell me stories about the past, and some of them were about the war. However, the only war stories my grandmother told me were the funny stories about how she managed without enough food or things after the war. Thinking about it now, I don't know if she intentionally told us funny stories because she couldn't tell scary stories to children, or if she didn't want to remember the horrible war.
I feel very grateful that there is no war in Japan now and that we are living our daily lives.
I hope that a peaceful world without nuclear weapons will be realized.
