今日は、私の作品Shampooをしている猫のイラストを紹介します。
これは、カンボジアを訪れた際に、実際に見た光景をもとに描かれたものです。
友人と街をぶらぶらしていたら、現地のご婦人二人が道路に面したおうちの敷地内でシャンプーをしていました。もしかしたら、ヘアーサロンだったのかも。
写真も無いし、場所もよく覚えていないのでもう確かめようがありませんが、目に焼き付いて離れない光景でした。
そんな日常なんだけど何だか特別な場面に出くわすことってありませんか？
そんな瞬間を大切にとっておいて、イラストに出来たらいいなと思っています。
この絵で特徴的なのは、私の絵には珍しく色数を抑えたところがまず挙げられます。
紫、ピンク、グリーン。そして黒で全体を引き締めてます。
普段は同系色をもっと塗り重ねて、色の重なりを楽しんでいるのですが、この作品では色を混ぜず、組み合わせで場面のポップで不思議な感じを表現しています。
それから、まる、三角、四角などがいびつに登場するのも私の絵の特徴かもしれません。
背景はあまり描かないのですが、今回は、まるいシャボンをたくさん描いてみました。
カンボジアは私にとって忘れられない国のひとつです。
映画『キリング・フィールド』で描かれた70年代の悲惨な出来事が嘘のように、エネルギッシュでフレンドリーな国でした。
他にもインスパイアされて描いたものがあるので、また今後ご紹介します。

Today, I'd like to talk about my illustration, Shampoo.
It was drawn based on a scene I actually saw when I visited Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
I was wandering around the city with my friends, and we saw a local lady shampooing the other lady's hair in front of a house facing the road. It might be a hair salon.
I didn't take a photo there, and I don't remember where exactly it was, so I can't be sure anymore, but I strangely couldn't forget the scene.
Haven't you come across such an ordinary but somehow special scene?
I would like to save such moments and make illustrations of them.
The first thing that is unique about this picture is that I have kept the number of colors low, which is unusual for my works.
Purple, pink, and green are the main colors. And I used black to tie the whole thing together.
Normally, I use more colors of the same hue and enjoy the overlapping of colors, but in this work, I didn't mix the colors and used combinations to express the pop and mysterious feeling of the scene.
Another characteristic of my work is the appearance of shapes; circles, triangles, and squares.
I don't often draw backgrounds, but this time I drew a lot of round soap bubbles.
I think I will never forget this country. Cambodia is special to me.
It was an energetic and friendly country. All the good memories there made me almost forget about the tragic events of the 70's depicted in the movie "The Killing Fields."
I have other works inspired there. I will show them in the future.
